Within the last year, I have tried to only wash my hair a couple times a week. When I first heard of this concept, I was pretty disgusted. Wouldn’t my hair start to smell and appear extremely greasy? After a few weeks of training my hair not to be washed every day, I actually noticed that my hair was way less greasy than when I was washing it daily. Apparently, this method of “weekly washing” (for me it’s like every 4 days), helps to slow down oil production in the scalp. However, by day 3 dry shampoo is your best friend. But, the downside is that dry shampoo creates ALOT of buildup. Enter the Kristin Ess Scalp Scrub. This scrub promises to gently exfoliate to remove dead skin and buildup. This physical exfoliant is made with real sugar to help retain the scalps natural moisture without drying it out. All Kristin Ess products are cruelty free, color safe, and vegan. Their products are also formulated without parabens, sulfates, and phthalates. I was excited to use this since I had such heavy buildup due to my increased use of dry shampoo. However, I couldn’t be more disappointed with this product. This product is so so THICK. It feels like you're pouring molasses on your head mixed with some sugar. I followed the directions, made sure my hair was wet, and put a small amount on the top of my head. But, no matter how much I rubbed it in, it was just as thick as before. It instantly weighed my hair down, making my hair feel even more greasy than before. I tried MULTIPLE times to get this scrub to work, but I just couldn’t. The worst part is, once you get it in your hair, it takes forever to wash it out. And it creates massive knots too. In theory, this is a great product. I think if it was a bit thinner in consistency, it would work perfectly. Personally, I think I’ll just stick to my detox shampoo from Ouai.
