I can't remember the last time I actually bought a lipstick. I usually always just got them for free while working at Ulta and with Covid, there was never a need to wear any lip products. So, I probably would have never discovered this product if I didn't get it for free. This is by far the most unique lipstick formula I've ever seen. Way back when, there were simply just tubes of lipstick (bullet lipstick). All the finishes were the same and all the colors were pretty similar. But, since makeup has become so much more innovative, that has changed. Liquid lipstick was all the rage a few years ago when Kylie Lip Kits first launched. Consumers LOVED the longevity of the liquid lipstick but HATED how dry it felt on their lips. Some formulas, like the Colourpop matte lipsticks, even cracked on the lips. Many brands tried to re-invent the liquid lipstick to create the "perfect" formula. Long wearing, doesn't transfer, and most importantly, doesn't feel dry. Nars decided to take this challenge on for theirselves. Last year, the brand launched the Air Matte Liquid Lipstick. The fluffy wand tip deposits a hint of color to give lips a flushed look. The formula is extremely lightweight that you almost forget you have anything on. My problem with this product isn't how it looks, because its actually quite beautiful, however my issue is this product isn't what it says it is. First off, this is NOT a liquid lipstick. Theres literally no liquid at all, it's just a refined powder pigment. In making regular lipstick, powder pigment (color) is mixed with some solid, usually beeswax, to create a thicker formula. But this product has neither liquid or beeswax, which is what makes the finish so interesting. Another issue I had with this product is the packaging. Each tube is supposed to mimic the color of the lipstick inside. But, it was not even CLOSE. My bottle was a dusty rose shade, so I assumed that would be what the lipstick looks like too. Nope, the color inside was in fact a pastel baby doll pink. My last problem with this product was the wear time. It claims to "wear all day" but it honestly never lasted me more than 30 minutes. This was pretty disappointing because I had thought since it was so light weight and not a liquid formula, the wear time would be longer. These all may seem like menial issues, but if I were to pay $26 for this product as a consumer, I would want it to be EXACTLY what it claims to be. This certainly isn't the worst lipstick I've tried, but overall I was pretty unimpressed with it. If you are looking for a similar product with an airy, weightless feel I suggest the Em Cosmetics Infinite Lip Cloud. It has all day wear, bolder shades to pick from, and is $6 cheaper.
