Being a pale girl, finding the perfect self tanner is quite the mission. It needs to look natural, yet not too orangey. It needs to dry somewhat quick and not stain everything I touch. And it needs not to smell horrendous. I am a die hard St. Tropez fan as they meet my self tanning requirements, but I always like trying new things too. At my job (Ulta) we recently marked down a ton of sunscreen and self tanner, including the one pictured. Not only was it dirt cheap, but, it claims to be "organic" and "natural." While "fake baking" (self tanning without exposing yourself to harmful rays) is a MUCH safer options than tanning beds or laying in the sun for hours, there are some self tanners that are made with harsh chemicals. Some of those chemicals include ; mercury, petroleum, and other harsh metals and ingredients. NKD SKN is made with 100% DHA, a sugar molecule that actually comes from plants and naturally darkens the skin. This self tanning mousse is also odorless and has other great ingredients like aloe vera, raspberry, and lychee. When first applying this I immediately freaked out because of how brightly orange the product was. I assumed the coloring may appear different because of the all natural ingredients so I decided to proceed. It was odorless like they claimed and actually went on pretty easily. The next morning, I was anxious to see what my skin looked like. I was surprised to see I had a natural looking glow! Not too dark and not orangey. I went on with my morning routine as usual (wash face, brush teeth, eat breakfast). But, I began to notice something.... any time my skin was wet a big spot appeared instantly taking the fake tan away with it. I wondered if I had misread the instructions. So, I got in the shower and rinsed off. When I got out, all my self tanner had come off. I looked just as pale as before. Sadly, it darkened all my towels and clothes but not my skin. I'm unsure if this product was expired, (although I couldn't find any expiration date) or if it simply did not work. Either way, it just wasn't for me. I do want to continue to try all natural self tanners and find one that works!
