You guys know how much Tarte makeup I buy. I always seem to find products I love from them, but this was unfortunately not one of them. A few months ago I placed a big order from the Tarte website. I wanted to try things that were exclusive to their site that I hadn't seen anywhere in stores. This product immediately caught my eye. Lip masks are an awesome option if a typical lip balm isn't doing the trick. Lip masks are filled with hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid and oils to deeply nourish chapped lips. I especially love to use them at night so my lips can soak up all the goodness while I sleep. This product claims to have 12 hours of hydration in a sheer, non-sticky texture. Two of those three claims are false in my opinion. Thankfully, it isn't a sticky formula. Having anything sticky on your lips can be an absolute nightmare. But, it sure isn't sheer or hydrating. On the Tarte website, the pictures make the lip mask look like it has a subtle pink tint. But when applied to the lips, it turns them hot pink. I mean like 80's Barbie obnoxious hot pink. Along with the bright color, it also transfers. Since I would wear this mostly at night time, I would fall asleep with it on. When I woke up, I had bright hot pink spots all over my white pillows. Thankfully, it disappeared after a quick wash. But, a "sheer lip mask" shouldn't transfer onto anything. The color was an immediate no from me, but, I still gave it a try to see how well it hydrated. Sadly, within about 20 min my lips felt parched once again. However, the worst thing about this product is the scent/taste. It claims to have a "light hint of strawberry" but it's more like strawberry cough syrup. It literally takes your breath away when applied and it doesn't go away for several minutes. Overall, this product was a major disappointment. If you are looking for something to keep your lips feeling hydrated, I recommend the Lip Oil by Soap and Glory. It is clear, non-sticky, and is about $5.00 cheaper.
