The older I get, the more I realize how important taking care of your skin is. Just think about everything it goes through in a day. It's exposed to harsh lights, harmful chemicals, and gets clogged with dirt and oils. Every step in your routine is so vital to keep your skin protected and looking beautiful. A close friend of mine was recently de-cluttering some of her things and let me have this hyaluronic acid serum from Tarte. I had never seen this product before so I was curious to see how it worked. Hyaluronic acid is a common ingredient found in most masks and moisturizers. This superhero molecule is found naturally in the skin. It helps to deeply hydrate and give skin a healthy glow. It also has a light, watery texture that can be layered easily under your moisturizer. I have naturally dry skin so I'll take anything that helps. According to Tarte.com, this serum is also loaded with vitamin B5 and marine plants to provide antioxidants to the skin. After cleansing and toning my face, I went in with the Mermaid Skin serum. I was surprised when I applied the serum on my face and felt how sticky it was. I understand that most serums are tacky, but this one almost felt like glue. Within minutes my face felt dry. The serum had the opposite effect of what it had claimed. I of course went in with a good moisturizer after, but my skin still didn't feel hydrated. I tried this same process a few more times and still ended up with the same results. I'm not sure if the product was expired or if I used it incorrectly, but this stuff just didn't work for me. If you are looking for a hyaluronic acid serum, my esthetician recommends The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid Serum instead.
