The Ordinary is known for their iconic, inexpensive skincare products. Over the past year, the brand has exploded. The Ordinary has gotten so popular that the brand is now expanding into makeup. Their first launch includes both a full coverage and serum foundation as well as two primers and a full coverage concealer. Of course I will be trying ALL of these products to review, but I have way too many foundations and concealers right. So I'll be starting by reviewing the primers. On The Ordinary's website this product is described as, "a formula that uses advanced adaptive silicones to act as a matte, hydrating, blurring primer for makeup that looks higher in definition and adheres for longer. The formula can also be used alone as a non-greasy hydrator that reduces the looks of pores and of imperfections." If you were confused while reading that statement, you are not alone. Matte and hydrating are opposites so that's a bit contradictory. When I used this, I definitely thought of this a matte, silicone primer. I didn't feel anything hydrating. I feel like they added that in just to appeal to a wider consumer base. The formula is similar to the Benefit Porefessional or the Smashbox Photo Finish primer. It has such a lightweight feel to it, it almost feels like a whipped texture. This product works best by pressing it into the skin versus rubbing it around. That way the product better fills the pores and won't ball up when foundation is applied. I love the way this primer feels on the skin, however, it doesn't last for very long. If I am wearing this product under foundation, it lasts about up to 4 hours. But after that point, it starts to fizzle out. I don't feel like it blurred my skin or reduced the look of my pores. I didn't notice a difference between my skin with it on or without. Overall, I was a bit disappointed with this product. I was expecting a very high quality product (like their others). But this one just didn't work for me. It defintely isn't the worst primer I have used and I'll finish out this bottle. But, I won't be buying it again. If you are looking for a good silicone, blurring primer I would suggest Benefit Porefessional or the Smashbox Photo Finish primer instead.
